Slate and Individual
Endorsements

As former President of NPEU, I know that the credit for our union’s accomplishments over the last several years primarily belongs to the bargaining committees, unit leaders, and rank-and-file members who have come together to win contracts and sustain engagement. Unions prosper when they are bottom-up, not top-down. Strong leadership sees the rank-and-file as partners and treats them accordingly. I am confident that NPEU Members for a Democratic Union’s reform slate and endorsees have the experience, tenacity, and values our local needs to embrace its member-led roots.

I have had the opportunity to organize with several of the reform candidates around disability justice, worker safety, and the genocide in Gaza, and I have been inspired by their commitment to these issues and others. Members deserve to feel connected not just to their coworkers and their local but to the global labor movement. NPEU has so many passionate advocates with expertise on a variety of issues. Empowering members to connect their efforts to the labor movement via NPEU is a particular skill that the reform slate and endorsees bring to the table.

“I’ve served as Vice-Chair under Jeff’s leadership as the Chair of the Action Squared Union. He’s been a thoughtful leader who has effectively led and rallied unit members to organize around workplace causes for 2 terms including our recent & historical CBA. I believe he has the ability to grow our union and shepherd in a new crop of engaged members, thus making him an instrumental asset to the union. He has my vote as the next VP of Organizing.”

“I've organized with Shaye in many capacities - she was on the organizing committee for Defenders United, running a tough campaign to get workers to sign union cards in a hostile environment. She helped organize the first labor protest (on 3 ULPs) at Defenders of Wildlife HQ in Washington, DC - without Shaye, we would not have had such outstanding coverage in Politico, Metro Labor Notes (who showed up to our protests), E&E, and more.

Currently, I organize Green Union Hall with Shaye, where she brings her labor organizing prowess and her comms capacity to our small but mighty crew of 6 folks that bring peer-to-peer labor learning to non-profit workers looking to unionize their workplaces. I'm proud to call Shaye a friend, as she is one to always show up, always put her best and brightest ideas forward, and has a calming presence throughout it all.”

“I’m proud to endorse Dave Kamper for VP of Organizing. At EPI United, Kamper contributes valuable direction in engaging our members during bargaining and other worker actions. Kamper’s decades-long career in organizing provides the experience and leadership needed to ensure that our union grows in a sustainable manner with the help of our full membership.”

Maria Monroe _edited.jpg

Maria was our first union president and got our bargaining unit through our first contract negotiations. I know our contract is as strong as it is because of her leadership. She fought hard to get us more and better benefits and rights at work, and she was tireless in pushing back on the things that mattered the most to our unit.

Maria is also a wonderful colleague. No matter what she has on her plate, she always has time for her teammates and is willing to step in and help out, no questions asked. She is insanely talented and one of the most competent people I have ever worked with. I’m confident she would be a powerful advocate for us and an extremely effective VP of Representation.

It brings me great pleasure and honor to recommend and endorse a highly suitable individual - Kimberly Capehart - to be considered for the position of Secretary Treasurer for NPEU in recognition of her tireless efforts and outstanding leadership in fighting for the benefits of the unit members.

She has in many ways exceeded the requirements and expectations for the position, Kimberly's ambitions, intelligence, and accomplishments make her highly deserving of the opportunity bestowed by NPEU. During my years working with Kimberly, I have always found her dependable, efficient, helpful and unfailingly punctual. In fact, I have never worked with a person who gives as much attention to detail as she does. Also, her willingness to take on difficult asks to the management team and bring back significant wins to the unit has repeatedly impressed me over the years.

Kimberly also has the ability to resolve conflicts and handle other difficult situations with remarkable patience and admirable tact. She loves people, she works hard, and she always tries to lift the spirits of those around her. I believe these characteristics represent all that is good in the NPEU community, and I am pleased to endorse someone like her to be NPEU's Secretary Treasurer.
